‘Medics Act!’ is an independant humanitarian medical aid organisation. We aim to provide help for those who are victims of trauma and burns. Our UK based surgical team plans to travel to Bangladesh in 2010 to carry out surgical procedures on such patients on a voluntary basis.
Our target population will include victims of all kinds of burns, including deliberate acid burns due to refusal of marriage proposals, cleft palate patients and trauma patients with skin loss, all of whom suffer with severe physical and psychological scarring. In keeping with most of Bangladesh, much of the population of Sylhet are manual labourers, and hence any functional deficit secondary to contractures from burns or skin loss from trauma can impact on an entire family’s livelihood.
The team of ‘Medics Act!’ plans to go to Sylhet in northern Bangladesh to operate and rehabilitate. Our host hospital will be ‘The Sylhet Medical College and Hospital’ and has the advantages of being located in the heart of the city with easy access from the surrounding villages.
